“Defence is the first act of war” A Byron Katie quote you may want to ponder for a moment. A pacifist stance if there ever was one. One that some may view as weak. Arguing that bullies are kept in line with counterstrikes. But what truly happens when we begin to attack the people who attack us? We become one in anger. Legitimizing their actions and cycling the pain. Fighting fire with fire simply makes a bigger fire. Leading us to become the very people we say we’re not. Losing our humanity in the process. Let’s remember that we aren’t what people do to us. Unless we allow it.
There was a time when I was spiritually egotistical enough to believe I had the power to bring about peace on earth. Now, I believe peace is much more attainable than having to rely on telling others what to do. Peace on earth, for you or I, is simply a choice. The choice to remain peaceful no matter what the world throws at you. A decision to BE peace. Something your conditioned mind and the rest of society may not always agree with. Especially when you’ve been hurt by another.
I realize acceptance of your life situation isn’t always easy, especially when you may have very real physical issues to deal with. But, know this, it is possible. When life gets you down and you don’t see any way out, you may want to read this quote by Henry Ford that helped me recently. “When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.”
