One of the greatest pieces of advice I ever received was from my stepdad Rich when he said “Most people are doing the best they can with what they have.” A lesson reiterated by heavyweight spiritual teacher Louise Hay who said “Most people are doing the best they can, given what they know and understand, including you. If they knew more and were aware of more, they would do things differently.”
We all have different perspectives, cultures, environments, capacity, etc… that influence how we make decisions and live our lives. No one is really out to get you. If you feel or are persecuted by another it’s very likely they’re acting in a way they think works best. If you dive deep enough into this realization you open the door to negative thoughts being replaced by compassion and understanding as opposed to criticism and distaste. We all come from the same place of spirit, it’s what happens after birth that creates the personalities we have. Hopefully helping us traverse a very complicated world. Yet always lacking without one foot in the reality of our impersonal truest nature.
Today, if someone cuts you off while driving or is in any way mean to you, give them a pass. Instead, try to remember…
They’re doing the best they can.
